How to become a volunteer at WHGH

We would love to have you join our Auxiliary team at West Haldimand General Hospital. Volunteering is a wonderful way to give back, meet new friends, and make a real difference in our community.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a minimum age to volunteer?

Yes, applicants must be 16 years old. Please note: Application requirements for high school student programs vary across WHGH, please check with Karen.mckellar@whgh.ca for more information.

What is the time commitment to volunteer?

You will be asked for a commitment of at least six months, volunteering once a week for two to four hours. (Length of shift depends on the assigned position.)

Am I guaranteed a volunteer position if I apply?

Volunteer placement will depend on the needs of the facility and your skill set, preferences, and availability.

Does WHGH Require Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Sector Checks?

All selected volunteers, 18 and over will be asked to complete a criminal reference/vulnerable sector check. The department of volunteer resources will provide you with the paperwork to have this completed.

Does WHGH require proof of immunization?

Volunteers will be required to provide proof of immunization against certain communicable diseases prior to starting as a volunteer.

What training will I receive if I become a volunteer?

Initially all volunteers receive a general orientation and program specific training. Yearly, volunteers are required to complete an education update.
