West Haldimand General Hospital receives accreditation with Exemplary Standing

Monday, March 6, 2023

West Haldimand General Hospital (WHGH) recently welcomed Accreditation Canada surveyors into our organization. Accreditation Canada is a not-for-profit organization, accredited by the International Society for Quality in Health Care and provides health care organizations with an external peer review process, to assess and improve the services they provide based on standards of healthcare excellence. As a result of their evaluation, WHGH achieved Accreditation with Exemplary Standing for the period of 2023-2027, the highest possible designation for an accredited organization. The WHGH team’s compliance rate was 99.2 (assessed against 1200 standards), an extraordinary result.

This is the second consecutive time WHGH has achieved the distinction of Exemplary Standing. The Accreditation Canada website describes this designation as being awarded to “organizations that go beyond Accreditation Canada’s requirements and demonstrate excellence in quality improvement.”

“The West Haldimand General Hospital Board of Directors is ecstatic with the results of the accreditation survey,” said Julie Richardson, Board Chair. “As a board, we commend the entire WHGH family for the inspiring results which are a testament to the level of commitment to the mission at WHGH.  We have an incredible team providing great service to our communities”.

The Accreditation process is voluntary and helps healthcare organizations improve on a variety of levels including: quality and safety, communication and collaboration, Leading Practices and accountability.

“This level of award is solid evidence to our community of the strong, unwavering commitment and passion for excellence that our people show each and every day,” said Todd Stepanuik, WHGH President and CEO. “We have an incredible team and the inspiring results are a credit to their hard work, dedication and commitment to quality and patient safety.”

Accreditation Canada provided an overwhelmingly positive report, highlighting WHGH’s commitment to quality improvement, patient centered care and teamwork.

“Receiving the highest possible standing from Accreditation Canada speaks volumes of everyone who works at West Haldimand General Hospital,” says Dr. Robin Martin-Godelie, Chief of Staff. This is a direct reflection of their dedication to delivering the highest quality of care to our patients and community.”

We are very proud of this achievement and thank our staff for all of their hard work and dedication in preparing for this accreditation survey.
