West Haldimand General Hospital prepares for an eight-hour Partial Power Outage on November 15

On Tuesday, November 15, 2022, West Haldimand General Hospital (WHGH) will experience a planned eight-hour partial power outage. The outage is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. and end by 4:00 p.m. The partial power outage is required to replace some key electrical infrastructure at WHGH. Some of the current electrical infrastructure has reached its end of life and it must be replaced to avoid unplanned power outages at the hospital.

During this time, temporary back-up power will be provided to ensure the hospital has the electrical capacity to support critical operations on the day of the partial power outage. Extensive planning and communication have occurred to ensure the comfort and safety of our current patients and mitigate any risks.

The hospital’s emergency department, inpatient unit, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy and laboratory services will remain operational and will continue to provide high-quality, safe care to patients.  The Haldimand Family Health Team’s outpatient clinic will not be impacted and will continue to operate as normal.

During the eight-hour reduction of power, there will be no scheduled surgical procedures, outpatient tests, clinics or treatments at WHGH. All patients scheduled for appointments on November 15 have been contacted by our health-care teams to reschedule. The COVID-19 Assessment Centre will also be temporarily closed for the day.

“This project has involved tremendous work to properly understand and address all of the potential impacts,” said Jason SmithDirector of Facilities & Capital Projects. “Communication with partners and stakeholders has been paramount as we try to mitigate all potential risks. We thank our long list of community and regional partners for their support leading up to and during the partial power outage.”

Elevators and air heating/cooling systems at WHGH will remain operational.

WHGH apologizes for any inconvenience this temporary power reduction may cause and appreciates your support and understanding during this time.
