WHGH to complete planned power shutdown on Thursday, July 9

West Haldimand General Hospital (WHGH) will complete a planned power shutdown on Thursday, July 9, from 7:30 a.m. to approximately 4:00 p.m.

Patient care services will continue during the shutdown. The Emergency Department will remain open for emergencies.

The shutdown is required to support ongoing electrical infrastructure upgrades at the hospital. Planning has taken place to help ensure the safety of patients, visitors, staff, physicians, and volunteers throughout the day.

This is the fourth of six planned power shutdowns taking place at WHGH.

What patients and visitors can expect

The following services will remain available during the shutdown:

  • Emergency Department
  • Inpatient care services
  • Pharmacy services
  • X-ray services
  • Haldimand Family Health Team Health Care Centre
  • Hospital cafeteria

Temporary lighting will be in place in key areas of the hospital. One main elevator will remain available during the shutdown.

The hospital cafeteria will remain open, but it will serve cold food only. Hot meals will not be available.

Parking gates will be raised for the day.

Temporary service changes

The following services will be closed for the day:

  • LifeLabs
  • Physiotherapy
  • Audiology
  • Volunteer Coffee Shop

All scheduled surgeries and outpatient diagnostic imaging appointments have been rescheduled during the shutdown.

Patients may experience minor delays in some areas of the hospital as teams work through planned procedures during the outage.

The Emergency Department will continue to provide care for urgent and emergency medical needs throughout the shutdown.
