Quality improvement is an ongoing priority that helps us continually find new and better ways of doing things so that we can enhance care for patients, increase satisfaction and achieve even better clinical outcomes.
Our Quality Improvement Plan, or QIP, is one tool that we are using to help us document and review our current performance in a variety of areas. With this plan, we will be able to very clearly see our targeted areas for improvement and chart our progress.

In June 2010, the Ontario Government passed the Excellent Care for All Act. This legislation will help support hospitals to further improve the quality and safety of care they provide for members of our community.

One of the ways that the Excellent Care for All Act is helping hospitals meet our community’s expectations regarding quality, patient safety and accountability is through the public reporting of Quality Improvement Plans (QIP).
How to Read the Quality Improvement Plan
Our Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) is made up of two parts:
1) A document that provides a brief overview of our quality improvement plan, highlighting and listing our hospital’s top priorities for the year.
2) A spreadsheet that includes our improvement targets and initiatives. The spreadsheet includes a core set of indicators that all similar hospitals across the province are working on.

In accordance with the Broader Public Sector Accountability Act, 2010, all Ontario hospitals annually attest to their compliance with consultant reporting requirements, the prohibition on engaging lobbyist services using public funds, and directives issued under the Act relating to expense claims, perquisites, and procurement.

Committed to a Healthier Planet: Our Environmental Management Plan
At West Haldimand General Hospital (WHGH), we recognize the urgent link between climate change and human health. As the largest healthcare organization in Haldimand County, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Our Environmental Management Plan (EMP) sets a clear path forward. It includes strategic initiatives and measurable goals designed to guide WHGH in becoming a model of sustainability—protecting the health of our patients, community, and the planet for generations to come.
Our Commitment to Compliance
In alignment with Ontario Regulation 507/18, every public hospital must prepare, publish, and make available to the public an Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan. WHGH proudly meets this requirement and integrates it into our broader sustainability strategy.
Reporting Our Progress
We believe in transparency. WHGH regularly shares updates on our environmental efforts, highlighting innovative projects, staff leadership, and the real-world impact of our sustainability work.

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 makes Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers. The act requires organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario to make public, by March 31 each year, the names, positions, salaries and total taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year. The most recent disclosure can be found on the Ministry of Finance website.

Patient safety is our number-one priority at West Haldimand General Hospital. A big part of that commitment is routinely monitoring, tracking and reporting our hospital-acquired infection rates. Hospital-acquired infections are spread through bacteria and viruses. These same bacteria and viruses can also be found in the community.
By tracking our infection rates, we can identify where issues exist and take the necessary measures to improve. Information about infection rates is available below.
