WHGH and NGH raise Every Child Matters Flag
West Haldimand General Hospital (WHGH) and Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) proudly raised the Every Child Matters flag on Thursday, September 9, 2025. The flag will remain in place until Wednesday, October 1, as part of our recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, 2025.
This day honours First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Survivors, their families, and communities. It serves as a reminder of the importance of publicly commemorating the history and legacy of residential schools as a vital part of the reconciliation process.
NGH and WHGH acknowledge the historical and ongoing impacts of systemic barriers and racism experienced by First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples in accessing healthcare. We are committed to creating an inclusive and culturally safe environment for Indigenous patients and families by improving access to cultural supports, addressing systemic barriers, and fostering understanding and empathy among staff and physicians.
Both hospitals are also committed to putting the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action into practice, especially those aimed at improving health and healthcare for Indigenous Peoples.
On September 30, NGH and WHGH encourage everyone to wear orange to honour Survivors and show support for Orange Shirt Day.
