WHGH to complete planned power shutdown on Wednesday, June 24
West Haldimand General Hospital will complete a planned power shutdown on Wednesday, June 24, from 7:30 a.m. to approximately 4:00 p.m. Patient care services will continue during the shutdown, and the Emergency Department will remain open for emergencies.
The shutdown is required to support ongoing electrical infrastructure upgrades at the hospital. Extensive planning has taken place to help ensure the safety of patients, visitors, staff, physicians, and volunteers throughout the day.
This is the third of six planned power shutdowns scheduled between May and August 2026.
What patients and visitors can expect
The following services will remain available during the shutdown:
- Emergency Department
- Inpatient care services
- Pharmacy services
- Haldimand Family Health Team Health Care Centre
- Hospital cafeteria
Temporary lighting will be in place throughout the hospital. One main elevator will remain available during the shutdown.
Temporary service changes
The following services will be closed for the day:
- LifeLabs
- Physiotherapy
- Audiology
- Volunteer Coffee Shop
Patients may experience minor delays in some areas of the hospital as teams work through planned procedures during the outage.
The Emergency Department will continue to provide care for urgent and emergency medical needs throughout the shutdown.

Additional planned power shutdowns are currently scheduled for:
- July 9, 2026
- July 23, 2026
- August 5, 2026
Updates will be shared with the community before each scheduled shutdown.
